Kem and T. Pratt: A New Album Is On The Way
Submitted by T. Pratt on Wed, 03/11/2009 - 16:06.
Powder Brows is the winner of this weeks celebrity guess who.
Kem was one of the first artists in recent memory to benefit directly from the Steppers movement. Like K'Jon and Slique of today, I remember buying Kem's album when it was out on Kemistry Records, before Motown picked him up. When I told Kem this, he said, "That's the record to have." Needless to say, his records are modern day classics in my eyes.

Carl is actually a native of Suburban Chicago and the brother absolutely loves Steppin'. Carl knows that his music is popular with Steppers and loves performing in the Chi for this reason. We laughed and talked as Carl Thomas discussed coming up hanging in the 100's and more.

"Turn Up The Heat's" G. Garvin and T. Pratt

G. Garvin has the only cooking on TV that I'll watch ... TV One's "Turn Up The Heat." It's a male-orientated show that females can feel as well. Garvin is extremely intelligent and able to chop it up (no pun intended) on a variety of subjects. I told G. Garvin that I was still trying to make it out to BED, a laid-back upscale spot in New York City. He reminded me that he'd also featured the Atlanta version of this spot on his show as well.

Glenn Turman and T. Pratt
Submitted by T. Pratt on Thu, 02/05/2009 - 15:30.
A lot of you remember Glenn Turman from "A Different World" and I did too. The other night however, I was watching "Gremlins" with my baby girl, and noticed that he was the doctor that examined the Gremlin larva before they hatched. Glenn was a young cat then. At any rate, he's a laid cat older cat these days, most likely living off of that back-in-the-day acting paper.

T. Pratt at Patti LaBelle's House
Submitted by T. Pratt on Thu, 01/29/2009 - 12:11.
I had the rare opportunity to spend the day at Patti's home in the suburbs of Philly. It's an old skool castle looking pad, with iron gates and bushes giving it a fortress like feel. Inside her massive digs, the feeling was warm, with huge colorful scented candles burning, and pictures from various points in her career. Patti is a busy lady, so as you might have guessed, she has two assistants and a maid that takes care of the house.

I had the opportunity to help plan a party in New York for the sweet sister gospel duo, Mary Mary. Ericka and Tina Atkins are adorable and as you probably would have guessed, really down-to-earth. It was like spending the afternoon with a couple of your cousins, as they played music from their new album "The Sound," ate soul food, and chatted with their newfound friends and fans.

I've now had the opportunity to hang out with Michelle Williams, Kelly Rowland, and Matthew Knowles, but I still can't get to that damn Beyonce. I saw Bey's concert at the United Center last year, which was awesome by the way, and her hubby Jay Z's concert at the Kennedy Center in D. C., but that's about it.

New Noel Gourdin Track
Submitted by T. Pratt on Tue, 12/30/2008 - 16:34.
Make sure you check out the new Noel Gourdin track "Better Man" and let me know if you'd step to it. I saw Noel perform before his single "River" had dropped and I knew then that the cat had talent. His then publicist, Courtney Lowrey was pumping him big time and we eventually put an event together with him at a soul food spot named Tillman's in NY. Here is the a shot from the event

I met Malcolm Jamal Warner, who had just finished performing with his poetry band Miles Long. Malcolm plays the guitar and recites poetry with a rock and jazz infused sound. Some of you might have caught him on Def Poetry Jam.
