ChiStepper kicks of Love Notes with Oakland’s Adisa Ambonisye. The game is simple, ChiStepper plays a classic Steppers love song, and we chop it up about how the song relates to real life love scenarios. Check it out …
“I Love You Too Much” Maze ft. Frankie Beverly (1983)
The song starts off by saying “What is this feeling, can’t eat a bite…” Have you ever been so caught up in a lady that you couldn’t eat?
Ummm. Hell yeah I have! When I think about it, this one sister comes to my mind. In my heart a part of her is still with me.
How long did that feeling last?
Like I said, a part of her is still with me. I’m not really a fan of soul mates, but when I think of her that’s what comes to mind. The chemistry and how it came together.
“Maybe I’m Not The Man” Marcell and The Truth (2006)
How do you know when a relationship is going sour?
When the communication is not working. When you can’t ask a simple question and you’re not listening to each other. Communication is the key to unity. When you start taking your mate for granted, expecting her to pick up your underwear …. that’s the first sign that the relationship is falling apart. A relationship is like a flower, you have to tend to it, you have to water it and give it sunshine. Some people even talk to their plants. Mannnn … when I first started Steppin … that song ….
Do you usually break it off first?
Thinking about my history, yeah I usually break it off first. I can remember a few times when the sister broke it off first, and one of those sisters is the one that I was talking about earlier. I believe in pushing it to the limit [before splitting up]. I also believe that both people should be happy, and if necessary, I can be happy seeing you with somebody else.
What if she wants to creep back in for a few last time tune ups?
You mean the one that holds a place in my heart?
Any of them.
Usually when I’m done, I’m done. It’s rare that I do that … if we’ve run our course, I would say no. It would be rare.
“This Is Your Day” The Phatcat Players (2000)
Have you ever had such a wonderful time with a lady that you called in to work the next day? Brother … (Laughing) … often! I know I’ve gotten in trouble and lost some jobs because of that. I’ve called in sick on night and day shifts. If I’m feeling you, I’m going to spend some time with you. And it’s not just about sex … I’ve called in because we were having a good conversation. It was deep … beautiful.
The Phatcat Players said she could have whatever she wanted. Have you ever been guilty of tricking on a girl?
Damn! (Laughing) Yes I have. If I’m feeling you, I do believe in treating a lady nice. I’ve taken ladies on trips with me. I’ve taken ladies to Hawaii, Jamaica, and Aruba. So I guess I’m guilty of that. (Laughing) If I’m feeling you, I’m going to try and make you feel good. A lot of cats don’t want to take a girl to the BBQ joint, so you can imagine the kinda love I got.
Is it okay to tell a lady that she has you wide open?
Whooo. I have never done that. I have never said anything like that. At the age I am now, I probably would. When I was younger I would have never said that. Now though … “Baby, you got me wide open!”
